On Wednesday, May 24 our class joined with two other K5 classes for a performance of SWAMPED! Students worked hard to learn the songs, motions, and speaking parts. We are so thankful for all of our parents and families who came to our show and joined us for Awards Day after the show. Thank you! If you were not able to attend, there are segments of each song below for you to see.

Today our school was fortunate to receive 10 FREE books per student from PEP (Public Education Partners) Greenville! Some of our staff transformed our rainy day into a beach party in the gym! Students were given the books they chose a few weeks ago and were able to relax on beach towels and beach chairs, with tropical music and sunglasses! When we returned to our room, students were so excited that we read our books AGAIN! We are thankful for our partnership with PEP Greenville and their support of our students and summer reading.

This week, on Wednesday, May 3, we took our final K5 field trip to Lake Conestee Nature Park in Mauldin, SC. It is on the former sight of the old Greenville Braves stadium for our local families - and is now home to baseball fields, playgrounds, a walking trail, many nature trails, and a dog park! This is a free activity that is open to anyone - I hope our families will take advantage and plan a visit over the summer! We saw several animals (off and away from our trail), walked 2 nature trails, played games, and enjoyed a picnic lunch. We had great weather, especially for May.
See if you can spot the animal in each picture below! :)
We celebrated earning 90 stars for following expectations in Related Arts with a Fuzzy Friend Day on Thursday, April 20. Students enjoyed reading and working with their favorite fuzzy friend from home. This is our second time hosting this special day - it is always a student favorite!
Shortly after we returned from Spring Break, on Wednesday, April 19, we hosted Josh the Otter! We are very thankful for the Greer Rotary Club for sponsoring this program. Josh came by with a few of his friends to teach us about water safety and how to float! We read the Josh the Otter book, discussed and demonstrated safe ways to swim (parallel to the shore) and how to stay safe in the water (to float). Each student received a Josh the Otter book and a mask as well courtesy of the Greer Rotary Club!
The next day, on Tuesday, April 4, we hosted an in-house field trip with Bricks 4 Kidz! Each class had a teacher with Bricks come to our room and lead us through building our own 3D Lego model! Our class learned to build a tornado (which was more than appropriate given the recent weather!) by building a frame to attach a motor to in order to make to spinning towers, simulating the rotating wind a tornado brings. Students enjoyed working with their partner and following the pictorial directions in order to build their tornado. They also had a fun testing various Legos on the top to see if the wind was strong enough to blow things off.
On Monday, April 3 we had our 2017 Field Day! Field Day was held early due to the testing schedule for upper grades. It was a cool, gray morning filled with relay races, laughter, and good sportsmanship. I was extremely proud of how our students encouraged each other, cheered on their classmates, and tried new activities!
